About the Project

From Craft to Vector

This booklet provides a brief overview of the Pre-Columbian Mocha culture and its distinctive visual elements. It features a collection of cultural aspects on various topics that were of interest to the locals. Through examining and studying the pottery, paintings, textiles, and jewellery that the inhabitants created by hand over the years, I created vector art and gave a contemporary digital interpretation of the actions of the human hands that were crafted thousands of years ago.

I used Illustrator as my primary tool to convert 3D art and motifs into 2D vector art. To create the final figures, I used basic geometric shapes and added to them or subtracted from them more shapes as needed. This approach required me to analyze complex objects and break them down into simpler shapes. To recreate the original image, I utilized a range of mathematical operations, including multiplication, division, and calculation.

In addition to creating figurative art, I have also developed a lettering system that is heavily influenced by the language and style of a bygone era. Writing was not prevalent during that time, and therefore I had to create my own lettering system based on the lines and shapes that were commonly used during that period.
